Welcome to the Third issue of:
SteStosTerone
The first dedicated guide to programming the STE
in Stos Basic, with help of the numerous
extentions available.
---------------------
Dear reader,
As you can tell, SteStosTerone has a new shell, kindly donated by
Tony Greenwood. It was built using D.C.K.
This is a massive issue as far as source code is concerned,
so I had to use ST ZIP to shrink some of the folders.
You will find a copy of STZIP on this disk in the giveaway
folder. PLEASE READ THE >DOC< SUPPLIED FOR STZIP !!!!!!!
Then, get some formated disks ready to copy the uncompressed files
to. Sorry for the inconvenience, but......
Most of the source code is not a collection of different routines,
but building blocks. The tutorials show how to start with small
chunks of code to end up with a full game(in this case "MINIDROP").
This is a unusual way of presenting things, but I hope it will
encourage more people to write STE games. Small games or "Teasers"
as I call them, are the best way to learn programming something
that everyone can (hopefully) enjoy. It also encourages reusable
code. Once you have a basic high score table, it is easy to
enhance it and integrate it in any future program. Same thing
with the Sample bank routine.
Issue 4 will contain more small routines, but as issue 1 & 2
contain most of the STE basics, I thought it worthwhile to show
how to integrate DMA sound, Hardware scrolling and Control's sprite
engine, which is the only real novelty not yet covered.
There is also the full source to an INVADERS game
by LJ Greenhalgh.
And, for those wanting more info on DMA/DAC sample replaying,
there is a good example of Sample Bank creation , later
integrated in "MINIDROP".
I warned you, all the tutorials in this issue tie together.

By now, you will either have given up hope, or learnt enough
to keep you interested.
Issue 1 and 2 should be in your possession.
If you haven't got SteStosTerone 1 & 2 then please order them.
It's always difficult to decide on what kind of learning curve
to impose when writing tutorials. I hope we haven't lost to many
of you.
If you have specific problems, then feel free to send them in.
Make sure to include an S.S.A.E. + Disk, if you expect a reply.
Otherwise your question might be answered in a future issue.
As this is not a profit making venture, we can not offer any
waranties for Post getting lost
This month we will focus on hardware scrolling and sprites .

Finnaly, if there is any mail, please send an SAE + Stamp + Disk if a
reply is required to:

---->NO S.S.A.E. , NO REPLY!
No DISK SENT, No DISK Returned

SteStosTerone's ambition is to spread awareness of the numerous PD and
Shareware extentions available, that will allow you to use the extra
features offered by the STE.
We will always try to include as much source code and tutorials as
possible, covering every commands relevant to the STE.
The aim is to provide you with all the tools required to write arcade
games (and demos if you have to!) on the STE.
******************************************
All the Extentions supplied with this mag are PD to the best of our
knowledge, and come with original documentation and source if available.
If an extention is shareware (like Control by LJ Greenhalgh), please
try to register it if you can. Later tutorials use features only present
in the registrated version .
The STE, Quartet and Blitter extentions are PD and need not be registered,
as the owner of the copyright does not offer support any more.
********************************************************
Warning:
While every effort has been made to supply you
with an quality product, none of the writers and coders
involved with SteStosTerone can be held responsable
for errors printed, or for damage to your health,
finance, equipment or other resulting from it's use.
Read and experiment at your own risk! or quit now!
********************************************************
Lastly, good luck, and have fun.
